Summary

Office of General Counsel, Arlington, Virginia

The selectee of this position serves as a Government Information Specialist. You will be responsible for analyzing and evaluating request for information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Acts (PA) along with researching relevant legislation and precedents and determining if requested information can be released and coordinating actions, providing assistance to the FOIA liaisons, etc.

Responsibilities

As a Government Information Specialist at the GS-0306-13 level, some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Experience distinguishing Freedom of Information, Information and Privacy Acts request
  • Experience with legal research databases and/or internal Department of Justice records systems
  • Experience with the application of Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts exemptions to law enforcement records
  • Experience preparing correspondence; prepare memorandums, affidavits/declarations SORNs and Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).

REQUIREMENTS:
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Status candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade level).

Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

This position is a Testing Designated Position and is subject to random drug testing.

Qualifications

GS-13 TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 grade level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted).

You may qualify at the GS-0306-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to: (1) Researching established administration Freedom of Information/Privacy Act (FOI/PA) issues (2) interpreting and organizational policy regarding administration of the FOI/PA (3) processing FOI/PA request and (4) providing advice on search for the compilation of responsive records.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience
