Summary

This position is located with Bureau of Indian Affairs, Division of Information Operations in Washington, District of Columbia.
The incumbent serves as the Region's Senior IT Field Support Manager (FSM) expert providing advice, managing technical and non-technical aspects of the field support sites related to customer support operations.
The ideal candidate will have a combination of information technology knowledge and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the operational management of a regional help desk to include printer and workstation configuration, problem resolution, software distribution, call logging/tracking, asset management, software discovery, and configuration management.
  • Translate organizational goals and objectives into work assignments for IT team personnel.
  • Compile facts, draft and review reports, and prepare final written documents. Summarize technical events in plain non-technical language for general understanding considering the audience. Draft memoranda and other agency documentation.
  • Present briefings to executives. Convey information in a clear and concise manner. Train subordinates.
  • Exercise significant program responsibilities in working with management, other work team leads, and the executive level of the DIO and ACIO, contractors, vendors and other Federal entities.
  • Develop, direct and evaluate current and long-range needs for technical and business integration requirements for customers and program
  • Serve as the region's IT Field Support Manager (FSM), providing advice and technical assistance to the region, agencies field offices, schools and education line offices under the respective Bureaus' jurisdiction.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must meet the Basic Requirement and the Specialized experience below.
Basic Requirement
You must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies: 1) Attention to Detail -thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail; 2) Customer Service - worked with IT internal and external customers assessing their needs, and resolving their problems; 3) Oral Communication - making clear and convincing oral presentations; listening to others, and responding appropriately; 4) Problem Solving - analyzing IT complex problems; determining accuracy and relevance of information; utilizing sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized Experience
To qualify for the GS-13 you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent 1) managing, directing, supervising, or leading teams/groups of information technology individuals; 2) advising lower level technicians on installing, configuring, and providing peripheral device support utilizing Microsoft Windows operating systems; 3) presenting oral and written reports to senior management officials on IT issues; AND 4) providing technical assistance to desktop support staff

This is a supervisory position. Under provision of the Civil Service Reform Act, first-time supervisors are required to serve a one year supervisory probationary period before their appointment becomes final. Those who do not satisfactorily complete this probationary period will be returned to positions of no lower grade and pay than those they occupied before assuming their supervisory assignment.
