Summary

This position is open until filled. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. This is a temporary appointment not-to-exceed 12/31/2019 with possibility of extension into the winter.

The key responsibilities of legal interns in the Office of General Counsel are the review and analysis of appellate court decisions in criminal cases and identification and entry of data pertaining to the appellate arguments related to federal sentencing.

Additional duties include, but are not limited to, supporting the Office of General Counsel with general legal research relating to criminal law and procedure, application of the federal sentencing guidelines, and operation of an independent judicial agency.

Qualifications

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school and must be in good academic standing, and possess excellent research, writing and cite checking skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have law journal experience.


Education

Applicants must have completed at least two semesters of study at an accredited law school.

  • All new Commission employees must identify a financial institution for direct deposit of pay before appointment, mandated by the Federal Compensation Act.
  • All new Commission employees, those converted from a temporary appointment to a permanent appointment, and all rehired former Commission employees are required to serve a one year probationary period.The probationary period begins on the effective date of the employee's appointment, conversion, or rehire.
  • If appointed to a temporary position, management may have the discretion of converting the position to permanent depending upon funding and staffing allocation.
