Responsibilities

  • Operate specialized tracked and or wheeled equipment/ vehicles.
  • Services and maintains various pieces of heavy equipment. To include crawlers, dozers, tracked vehicles, farm tractors and hauling units.
  • Performs fire suppression and pre-suppression tasks along with other refuge maintenance as directed.

  • This is a drug testing designated position which requires you pass the pre-employment testing, and you will be subject to random drug testing while you occupy this position
  • You must pass an initial pre-employment physical examination and must be able to pass the work capacity fitness test (must carry a 45 lb pack for 3 miles within 45 minutes)
  • Official U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service uniform required
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
  • You must possess and maintain a valid State driver's license at all times during your tenure
  • You must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's license at all times during your tenure
  • The maximum entry-age for this position shall not exceed age 37, unless you are a preference eligible veteran or have sufficient prior Federal civilian law enforcement or firefighter experience to be retirement eligible by the age of 57
  • Time-In-Grade requirements apply to status candidates

Although no specific amount of experience, education or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position and the assessment questionnaire in order to be rated qualified for consideration. To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level, and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date will be considered.

The applicant must have possessed the following National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) incident management qualifications and training requirements to be considered eligible for this position:
  • Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2)
  • Selectees for IFPM positions requiring currency will be required to obtain and maintain currency for the NWCG qualification listed above.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA), allows individuals who currently or formerly were under time-limited competitive appointments at certain land management agencies to compete under merit promotion:
    Current appointees. Note: Must submit ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term for LMWFA.
    ·Hired under competitive examining procedures to a time limited appointment with a land management agency.
    ·Served under 1 or more time limited appointments by a land management agency for a period of 24 months without a break in service of 2 or more years; AND
    ·Performed at an acceptable level.
    Former appointees:
    ·Hired under competitive examining procedures to a time limited appointment with a land management agency,
    ·Served under 1 or more time limited appointments by a land management agency for a period totaling more than 24 months without a break in service of 2 or more years;

    (a) Served as a qualified youth on an appropriate conservation project completing a minimum of 640 hours of satisfactory service that included at least 120 hours through PLC;
