This position is located in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Fleet and Family Readiness Program, Fleet Readiness Department in the Fitness/Sports and Deployed Support Department. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of support duties to operate fitness, sports, or aquatic facilities as needed. ***LOCATED AT THE FS FITNESS CENTER***

Responsibilities
The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of support duties to operate fitness, sports, or aquatic facilities as needed. Assists the Fitness Director to plan, arrange, and execute activities for military, civilians and family members in the facilities assigned. Incumbent may explain and assist patrons in the use of facilities, ensuring safe and proper handling of facilities and sports equipment. Assures officials for sporting events are scheduled and available on time. Is responsible for and assists in maintaining cleanliness of facilities prior to, during, and after use. Assists in the opening and/or closing of facilities ensuring building security before closing at the end of the day. Responsible to review scheduled events to ensure facilities are prepared prior to scheduled start times. Checks ID cards to assure that only authorized patrons are utilizing facilities assigned. May answer telephone and personal questions providing excellent customer service skills. Circulates among the patrons to assist in basic use of equipment and to maintain good order and discipline. Cleans and maintains facilities, performing janitorial services to ensure interior spaces are clean, neat and orderly at all times. Sweeps, mops, dusts, and cleans workout rooms, mirrors, bathrooms and locker areas as necessary. Accounts for individual and unit issue of sports equipment by proper issue and turn-in procedures. Maintains and updates reservation schedules for facilities and sports fields to prevent schedule conflicts. Prepares and updates records/tables on ongoing intramural sports activities. Prepares, distributes, and posts publicity announcements of sports events and programs. Inventories sports equipment and follows-up on discrepancies. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

FACTOR 1. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Training and education or a minimum one year specific experience in a recreation/sports program.
Skill in operation of equipment to line fields, or set up for intramural sporting events.
Must be a mature individual who can exercise control over a large group of people to ensure good order and discipline as necessary.
Must be skilled in customer service.
FACTOR 2. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The incumbent reports directly to the Fitness/Sports/Aquatic Director or his/her designee who provides assignments by indicating what needs to be done. The incumbent will perform tasks independently without specific instructions, but refers deviations, problems or unfamiliar circumstances to supervisor for resolution.
FACTOR 3. GUIDELINES
Departmental, command and local guidelines are available for the programs and specific detailed guidelines are provided to employee and he/she must strictly adhere to guidelines; deviations must be approved by the supervisor.
FACTOR 4. COMPLEXITY
The work consists of duties involving related steps, processes, or methods in connection with the fitness programs which are usually basic (i.e. typical, conventional, and well-established) and are, as a whole, uncomplicated by severe problems such as extreme limitations in resources or by numerous special environmental elements.
FACTOR 5. SCOPE AND EFFECT
The work involves specific procedures to follow to assist in sporting events/programs where basic program plans and methods of operation are established. The problems encountered are typical, conventional, and relatively free of complicating environmental elements. The activities and services provided contribute to physical development, and morale and leisure time community recreation needs. Intermural sports is a leisure time activity that recreates the military and keeps them in physical condition which is a critical element of the military mission.
FACTOR 6. PERSONAL CONTACTS
Personal contacts include MWR and/or command staff, program participants, active duty military personnel, retirees and family members, visitors, business contacts, and the general public. Related contacts are with equipment manufacturers, maintenance and repair personnel.
FACTOR 7. PURPOSE OF CONTACTS
To provide information, on rules, hours of operation and provide information that will achieve results and provide customer service.
FACTOR 8. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires an adequate level of physical exertion such as walking, bending, stooping while providing assistance to patrons or maintaining fields or setting up for sporting events.
FACTOR 9. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Everyday risks and discomforts which would require normal safety precautions typical of sports facilities and outside sporting events.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
