Summary

The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC ) is established to enable the Military Departments and Services, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), (OSD), and other DoD Components, to introduce new capabilities and effectively experiment with new operational concepts in support of DoD's warfighting missions with the goal of accelerating the delivery of AI enabled capabilities, scaling the Department-wide impact of AI, and synchronizing DoD AI activities to expand Joint Force advantages.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an Engineer/Scientist supporting National Mission Initiative Cross-Functional Teams in the Capability Delivery Directorate, providing technical guidance, advisory support, and solving major problems in systems testing and evaluation.
  • Formulates and participates in test design activities for verification and validation of AI/ML systems and solutions in conjunction with the CFTs.
  • Assists the JAIC Lead Test Engineer in the creation of Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMP) for JAIC funded efforts.
  • Identifies the technical risk in testing of projects, particularly for assessing the limitations of planned tests on complex AI systems.
  • Manages, reviews and makes recommendations of user evaluation and equipment performance reports (EPR) used for subsequent proposals for design changes, including determination of their relative priorities for implementation.

Qualifications

This position has a basic requirement:

For the GG-1515 Operations Research:
Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

For the GG-1529 Mathematics Statistician:

Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics or combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

For the GG-1550 Computer Scientist:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Qualifying Experience:
For the GG-14 position, you must have applicable experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience may have been acquired in any Federal, Military, or Private sector but clearly demonstrates past experience to successfully perform the duties of this position.

Qualifying experience would be demonstrated by applying principles and practices of computer science and communications in the development and application of specialized test and evaluation techniques, to set up basic testing philosophies, and to develop new concepts for testing and evaluating the operational effectiveness and suitability of assigned systems and/or software solutions.

There is no substitution of education for experience at this grade level.

  • This position is a DoD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1599f.
