Summary

The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC ) is established to enable the Military Departments and Services, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), (OSD), and other DoD Components, to introduce new capabilities and effectively experiment with new operational concepts in support of DoD's warfighting missions with the goal of accelerating the delivery of AI enabled capabilities, scaling the Department-wide impact of AI, and synchronizing DoD AI activities to expand Joint Force advantages.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and documents operational concepts and strategies for AI components for assigned programs/projects.
  • Develops and automates large scale, high-performance data processing systems and tools to improve data quality and volume, and improve JAIC?s ability to deliver AI-enabled capabilities.
  • Applies data science techniques, including machine learning, deep learning, statistical modeling and/or data visualization to solve challenging business problems.
  • Furnishes advice to leadership with explanations on significance of scientific data and emerging AI capabilities with relevance to the organization and DoD.
  • Prepares papers and presentations of JAIC technical solutions and provides organizational representation at commercial conferences, DoD and other Government agencies, and industry.

Qualifications

This position has a basic requirement:

For the GG-1515 Operations Research:
Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

For the GG-1529 Mathematics Statistician:

Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics or combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

For the GG-1550 Computer Scientist:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

For theGG-0801/0854 Engineer series:
Engineering Degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Qualifying Experience:
For the GG-14 position, you must have applicable experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience may have been acquired in any Federal, Military, or Private sector but clearly demonstrates past experience to successfully perform the duties of this position.

Qualifying experience would be demonstrated by developing simulation and learning technologies to support autonomous and human systems, real time human-in-loop simulations, synthetic natural environments, advanced distributed learning, computer generated forces and immersive virtual environments.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience at this grade level.

  • This position is a DoD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1599f.
