Unpaid internships with OPIC are offered year round in Washington, D.C., and can last from 12 weeks to 12 months. Duties vary based on the department and/or office in which the intern is placed. OPIC's Internship Program offers valuable experience that contributes to educational and professional growth, and may be applied in any future employment endeavor, including federal, state and local governments or in the private sector.

Responsibilities
Under the guidance of an External Affairs officer, interns assist with planning and implementing events for foreign and U.S. dignitaries, and support OPIC's public affairs activities through research projects. Other duties include writing OPIC promotional materials, web content and case studies, and providing information about OPIC programs to the public. Interns may also assist in legislative activities of interest to the agency.

Qualifications
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited school pursuing degrees in Government/Public Policy, Political Science, International Affairs, Communication/Marketing or Legislative Affairs. Successful completion of a background investigation is also required. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs is required, and proficiency in PowerPoint is preferred. Experience with social media platforms a plus. Good verbal and written communication skills are also required.
Education
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited school pursuing degrees in Government/Public Policy, Political Science, International Affairs, Communication/Marketing or Legislative Affairs.

- US Citizenship is required
- Must be currently enrolled at least part-time in an accredited college or university
- Must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation
- Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt
