Summary

Unpaid internships with OPIC are offered year round in Washington, D.C., and can last from 12 weeks to 12 months. Duties vary based on the department and/or office in which the intern is placed. OPIC's Internship Program offers valuable experience that contributes to educational and professional growth, and may be applied in any future employment endeavor, including federal, state and local governments or in the private sector.

Responsibilities

Interns perform a variety of tasks, including:
  • Analyzing and reviewing materials on venture capital/private equity fund proposals;
  • Designing and modifying financial models;
  • Preparing written reports on current funds;
  • Researching new financial structures and investment vehicles;
  • Performing audits on proposed funds;
  • Financial modeling; and
  • Assisting with research and analysis for the OPIC General Call for Proposals.
Interns also will complete a strategic research project focusing on the following within the realm of emerging markets private equity:
  • Performance of funds and market trends in specific regions and countries;
  • Top-down and bottom-up market research and analysis of frontier markets and sectors attractive for private equity investment;
  • Analysis of OPIC's private equity portfolio; and
  • Assessment of investment strategies.
The project will culminate in a quality presentation and other written output, incorporating intern recommendations. In consultation with, and at the direction of the supervisor, interns are expected to take the initiative and play a substantive role in defining the parameters of research.

  • US Citizenship is required
  • Must be currently enrolled not less than half-time, in a high school, trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university, or comparable recognized educational institution
  • Must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation
  • Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt


Qualifications

Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled at least part-time in an accredited institution of higher education pursuing a degree (minimum of 60 credit hours) in Business, Economics and Finance, or be enrolled in an MBA program. Successful completion of a background investigation is also required.
