The Kennedy Center, which opened on September 8, 1971, is located on 17 acres overlooking the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. The Center continues its efforts to fulfill President Kennedy's vision by producing and presenting an unmatched variety of theater and musicals, dance and ballet, orchestral, chamber, jazz, popular, world, and folk music, and multimedia performances for all ages.

Job Description:

As the nation's cultural center, the Kennedy Center retains its commitment to educating and enlightening children and adults by offering arts learning experiences that are accessible to a broad community. Through more than 25 educational programs, quality arts experiences are provided for students, teachers, families, and the general public in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, the local region, and throughout the United States.

The Program Coordinator works in collaboration with the Manager to coordinate several aspects of the planning and implementation of all National Community Partnerships programming, events and administration. They will provide administrative, clerical, and logistical support for program activities, and will coordinate conferences and meetings. They will serve as the administrative contact for Partners in Education and Any Given Child, coordinating the delivery of services to constituents, and will orchestrate the National School Boards Award selection process. They will administer the Kennedy Center Seminars for Teaching Artist Development, including coordination of bookings, as well as monitoring interest and usage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

35% Responsible for the administrative coordination of National Community Partnerships communication, conferences, meetings and selection processes.

25% Oversees and organizes required materials for National Community Partnerships networks, including agreements and other documents, annual dues, and reimbursement requests. Plans and implements communication strategies in support of networks.

25% Coordinates the development and distribution of educational materials and resources, including Artist Seminars, and submissions for the School and Community Programs Update newsletter. Maintains databases, mailing lists and e-distribution lists. Oversees social media and web presence, communication and messaging for National Community Partnerships. Updates web pages and content.

5% Orchestrates the National School Boards Award (NSBA) selection process and the Women in Government (WIG) Award coordination.

5% Maintains National Community Partnerships filing system and websites; financial records and reporting: requisitions, billing, and payments. Collaborates with and supports the coordination of interns.

5% Other duties as assigned.

N/A Responds to the needs and requests of Kennedy Center management and staff in a professional and expedient manner, and adheres to all employer policies and procedures.

Key Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1-2 years' experience in event and meeting planning and implementation, customer service, and general office work
  • A working knowledge of arts education and the performing arts
  • Computer literacy with a typing speed of at least 50 words per minute
  • A working knowledge of financial record keeping
  • Additional experience in web-based projects and graphic design is preferred

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate in person and on the telephone. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel in order to operate computer keyboard, office equipment, and other essential tasks. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. This position infrequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

Must be able to work occasional weekend and evening events. Occasional lifting and moving of materials or equipment weighing as much as 25 pounds.

Travel is not required.
