Organization The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, the Bureau of Indian Education, and five US extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. CCSSO seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public. Summary The Council seeks a Director, Digital Marketing and Transformation who will work in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer to create a vision for, processes, and drive the enterprise-wide digital strategy, aligning the approach with organization-wide strategic objectives. This role is responsible for transforming the CCSSO digital ecosystem, overseeing public-facing digital channels, such as the CCSSO website and email marketing, championing digital approaches throughout the department and organization, overseeing CRM implantation and helping to foster a learning culture that innovates with a digital mindset. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Website/CRM Responsible for CCSSO's online digital experience for commerce and content with a focus on developing leading edge website/mobile design and capabilities. Collaborates with department leaders and appropriate stakeholders to translate CCSSO's programmatic and engagement missions into digital offerings. Assist with CMS and CRM strategy driven by data that enables a deeper customer relationship with a focus on segmentation and personalization.Support ongoing initiatives, programs and fundraising campaigns by: Designing and laying out web pages that include journey mapping, SEO and re-marketing opportunitiesManage creation of copy and supportive materials to ensure proper call to actions Conduct research for best practices in website design and layoutWork with developer to implement advanced website development (ie FAQ coding, SEO, CSS, layout code)Manage Google Analytics & Tag ManagerProvide weekly or campaign-based reports to Chief Development Officer, regarding website traffic, audience metrics, and advanced configurations of Google Analytics accountRegularly update program information with deadlines, program information, FAQs, and other relevant informationPost regular blog entries for timely articles related to CCSSO's mission, grant/funding opportunities, partners/corporate relationships, etc. Email Marketing & Fundraising Develop and manage annual email appeal and newsletter strategy and calendar including: Campaign-based email appeal seriesNewsletter articles and entriesMaintain CMS (such as MailChimp)Integration with social media platformsProvide regular reporting of campaign metrics and "health of file" reports Design & CreativeDevelop content and images based on strategy including: email headers, in-email images, and other graphicsProvide subject matter expertise for strategic decisions to improve fundraising results and meet/exceed revenue goalsProvide technical expertise to produce email acquisition, alignment with digital channels, and support overall development strategy Digital Marketing Strategies Collaborate with the communications team to integrate all online channels including website, email, and social media to support current and future CCSSO campaigns and initiatives. Work with the Chief Development Officer and other stakeholders to identify, develop, and implement marketing strategies to advance CCSSO's brand and visibility goals.Devise annual marketing and advertising budget in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer.Oversee the creation and delivery of advertisements and marketing materials.Analyze market trends and recommend changes to marketing strategies.Gather and analyze constituent (members, donors, attendees, prospects) information for the purpose of expanding the organization's reach.Collaborate with departments to create innovative online approaches to marketing, including web-based promotions, social media outreach, and other digital marketing opportunities. General digital process to support campaigns, initiatives and programs: Hold strategy meeting to discuss timeline, messaging/focus, existing data to create benchmarks and goals, and creative project managementManage process of content creation using Asana or similar platform: copy, images, supportive materials, and other digital assets for website, email and social media platformsSet-up back-end analytics for tracking of gifts, website traffic, email metrics, and social media insightsIf implementing social ads, create targeted segmentation/audienceProvide gift reports throughout the campaignWork with partners on established partnership expectations and requirements Program Support Share knowledge, mentor, and educate the organization's staff as to CCSSO's technological and digital marketing vision / strategy, opportunities, and challenges.Work with program staff to communicate updates/ impact via email regularly for duration of programBuild/edit pre- and post-surveysMaintain program information presented on website; update deadlines, program application announcements, etc. Education and Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field, from a four-year college or university, or a combination of education and experience which demonstrates the necessary skills and abilities required for the position.Five or more years of experience managing digital/e-commerce experienceDemonstrated experience in creating successful marketing and public relations collateralAbility to initiate and direct multiple projects simultaneouslyDemonstrated experience developing and implementing organization-wide technological, and digital strategies aligned with organizational mission and focus on user experience.Highly developed interpersonal skills, affinity for networking, and demonstrated high level of confidence and poise with a strong service orientation.Well-spoken communicator who can listen, assess and evaluate needs of stakeholders.Ability to anticipate, identify, analyze, and capitalize on growth opportunities.Five years of experience with direct oversight of Web Content Management Systems, Infrastructure, and ancillary support systems.Must maintain current knowledge and understanding of industry trends, current practices, new developments and applicable technologies regarding the use of technology in associations. Technical Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of HTML, XHTML, CSS Design, Javascript, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign CMS) Expertise in SEO and SEM as well as overall web analytics to drive website traffic as well as Google Analytics. Experience with CMS, such as Mailchimp, and CRM, such as Salesforce, strongly preferred.
