Due to Clearance Requirements Candidates must be US Citizens and successfully pass an extensive background investigation determining financial suitability Location 3501 N. Fairfax Drive, Arlington, vA KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Work with application partners to tune, troubleshoot and maintain a DB2 environment Analyze problems and provides recommendations for application improvements where appropriate Create, tune and monitor zOS DB2 systems for performance Assure integrity of databases, backups and logs Perform data refreshes in lower environments as needed Assist applications groups with system and database level issues and research Work with application groups and peers to determine implementation details for enhancements and applications Work with software vendors to provide timely support and resolution to issues Available to provide non-business hours support as assigned Establish and maintain working relationships with internal customers, internal IT support groups and vendors to achieve project goals Identify and develop strategic approaches for effectively evaluating and implementing new technologies and performance enhancements Recommend modifications to operating policies through process improvement initiatives Responsible for maintaining mainframe zOS and zVM systems software at most current level release and communicate resulting impacts of the overall health of the mainframe environment Hardwaresoftware refresh programs ndash lifecycle management Media handling and offsite rotation Disaster recovery and business continuity planning for the mainframe Mainframe Level 1, 2, and 3 support Become actively involved in the daily operation when required to meet critical schedules or resolve complex problems Annual forecasting and management of budget Capacity planning Mainframe vendor management Oversee annual maintenance renewals for mainframe hardwaresoftware Review applicable standards that affect mainframe Represent area to peers, customers for projects that cross multiple disciplines Ensure team adherence to all standards and policies Participate with corporate sourcing in hardwaresoftware procurement Oversee all mainframe projects ndash including all Project Managers Education Undergraduate degree in CSCECISMIS or EngineeringTechnology or related field or equivalent experiencetraining Qualifications 8+ years of zOS mainframe experience (11 years required, if no degree) Understanding of zOS subsystems and their roles IBM zSeries processors IBM zOS and zVM operating systems EMC Disk Library for Mainframe Experience with a maintaining mission critical, high availability zOS DB2 systems in a 24x7 environment Ability to effectively meet deadlines and prioritize projects in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment Must be well organized, thrive in a sense-of-urgency environment, leverage best practices and innovate through any problems Proficient in MS Office applications, including Microsoft Outlook, EXCEL and Word Excellent written and verbal communication skills Mainframe OEM software Mainframe configuration management Experience with Linux on a System z Enterprise Storage Solutions Performance management Capacity and predictive management Experience with large scale technology infrastructure Data Center operations, hardware and software Demonstrated conceptual understanding of the relationship between distributive and mainframe environments Demonstrated experience with managing performance metrics that must conform to SLAs Desired Experience Ability to handle critical situations Demonstrated ability of oral and written communications at all levels of management
