As the senior principal load balancing engineer, the candidate will oversee, support, and coordinate network policy, configuration, and troubleshooting in support of the enterprise Load Balancers. This role is a senior technical role with high visibility and is expected to interface with executive leadership and supported tenants. Primary duties include supporting the load balancing network and application requirements, collaborating with government and third-party stakeholders, coordinating with internal support teams, and reporting status to technical management and leadership. Specific responsibilities include:Provide subject matter expertise (SME) with regard to architecture/engineering for new load balancer implementations, cloud environment integrations, project designs, and standards development, as well as onboarding new tenants Provide SME load balancing administration/support for intelligent DNS routing between enterprise locations/data centers, as well as plan and implement upgrades (includes installation of new equipment)Implement approved authentication and certificate management controlsUse caching (static html content) for the enterprise infrastructure environment (hardware, software, and configuration components) and supported tenantsSupport deployment optionsConfigure self IPs, port lockdown, and network routesConfigure remote logging to Splunk and other government supplied monitoring toolsAdhere to change management processes and proceduresTroubleshoot, configure, upgrade, maintain, and monitor the load balancer network architecture (performance, configurations, traffic flow, application monitoring, CPU capacity/utilization)Analyze network alarms and identify sourcesCoordinate with on-site support personnel while troubleshootingUse enterprise service management tools to initiate, respond, and track service requestsCreate reports and analyze performance metricsDevelop processes/procedures and related engineering documentation for troubleshooting and quickly identifying issuesPerform reach back to OEM Vendors to de-conflict operational issues with known operating system bugs and security alertsPartner with the information security personnel to assess potential exposure to vulnerabilities, identify mitigation plans, and ensure compliance with enterprise security baselines and standardsEvaluate modern technologies to optimize network efficiency and review/provide recommendations to improve the load balancing solutionInform management in a clear, concise, and timely manner of any customer or technical issuesBe responsive and decisive on adjusting architecture as customer requirements and technology evolves Bachelors Degree or equivalent education and experience in lieu of degree 15+ years of related experienceActive TS/SCI clearanceMust meet DoD 8570 IAT Level II certificationSubject matter expert experience and advanced proficiency with F5 Load balancers, protocols, design, configuration, and support of datacenter and campus network infrastructure related to load balancing solutions. Must have experience designing, engineering, configuring and maintaining load balancers in a geographically and complex network environement, load balancing best practices, and general WAN/LAN network management and monitoring expertise. In depth knowledge of hardware platforms including engineering design and deployment implementation guidelines. Experience with patching and upgrading load balancer equipment. In depth knowledge of TCP/IP protocols. Experience building configurations using CLI. Demonstrated programming/scripting experience with some of the following: Bash Scripting, Web services, SOAP, REST, APIs, XML, J2SE, PowerShell.Broad understanding of network infrastructure topologies, security policies, firewalls, and the L2/L3 switch and router infrastructureResults-oriented resource who can develop and maintain relationships across the organization based on trust, teamwork, and knowledgeProven ability to resolve related issues and mitigate related risk by negotiating solutions that meet expected resultsPossess flexibility to operate in a highly dynamic environment while ensuring a high level of operational effectivenessMust be able to informally diagram and describe solutions (whiteboard), as well as provide formal as-built diagrams and detailed descriptions in VisioDetail oriented with ability to work well in a team environmentPreferred Qualifications:Load balancer certification, CCNA/CCNP, or higher CISCO certification preferredDemonstrated ability to prepare and brief comprehensive engineering documentation (requirements, system design, interface control documents, security, etc.)Familiar with Cloud services and software defined networkingFunctional understanding of network Layer 2/3 switching and routing protocolsFunctional understanding of diverse set of networked applications and terms requiring application traffic management solutions, including HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, FTP, DNS, NTP, NAT, and othersMicrosoft Windows Server, UNIX/Linux, Active DirectoryFamiliar with AWS and Azure cloud technologiesFamiliar with DevOps methodology and automation provisioning platformsLDAP/PKI experience a plusExcellent verbal skills and ability to communicate effectively with people who have varying degrees of technical expertiseKnowledge and some experience with Service Design Coordination, Service Transition Planning & Support, and Service Release & Deployment Management processes considered a plus For more than 50 years, General Dynamics Information Technology has served as a trusted provider of information technology, systems engineering, training and professional services to customers across federal, state, and local governments, and in the commercial sector.
