Overview Peraton is seeking a Network Engineer to join our team in Greenbelt, Maryland to support our Space Communication Network Services contract in the at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center . As prime contractor on the Space Communications Network Services (SCNS) contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment and systems engineering of NASA's worldwide satellite communication networks. The selected candidate will work for a dynamic, team-based development environment for the NASA Space Network, supporting the Networks operations and test and integration of electronic and electromechanical systems. Responsibilities What you'll do Plan, design, implement, and maintain the networking data and communications systems for a research and development lab at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Provides expert level technical engineering assistance to all phases of network development, operation and management. Monitors network topologies; develops and evaluates alternative utilization or configuration options. Conducts network performance and trend analysis to include individual circuit availability rates. Develops processes and programs to enhance network performance and reliability. Conducts network testing, supervises technology insertion, and evaluates developmental software applications. Provides functional guidance, supervision, technical support, training and quality assurance/quality control to Associate and Intermediate personnel. Supports senior staff as required and ensures customer requirements and project milestones are met. Provides technical analysis in data network planning, engineering, and design. Perform a variety of analyses and recommend component improvements to overall network design and performance. Provides analysis for implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient network solutions. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network infrastructure, such as routers, switches, firewalls, etc. Coordinates with third-party vendors for network equipment and troubleshooting network issues as necessary. Continuously study network performance to optimize system configurations. Qualifications You'd be a great fit if you have Bachelors' Degree in Engineering, Science, and/or Math; Network Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, Physics 5 + year's relative experience, related work experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information US Citizenship is required Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance. To obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship You'd be even better if you have Cisco CCNA Routing & Switching, Linux, and Security certifications are HIGHLY desired Expertise in IP technologies; ie Networking architectures and methodologies Proficiency in Cisco and/or Juniper switches, routers. Cisco ASA Firewalls, Cisco 3700, 3800 series and other legacy switches Proficiency with Cisco IOS or other IP/transport specific management tools (EMS) and general practices. Experience in remotely configuring networking or transport devices. Basic Linux Administration or command line interface (CLI) and scripting skills. Ability to map IP addresses and subnets for networking devices or ability to establish in-band/out of band management connections on transport devices. Ability to interpret network topology diagrams and proposed device configuration changes. Ability to work in a team focused, dynamic environment.
