Summary

CSWMD prepares national security professionals to address challenges posed by WMD through education and leader development, research and direct support, and outreach activities across the full spectrum of WMD issues including strategic deterrence.

NDU develops joint warfighters and other national security leaders through rigorous academics, research and engagement to serve the common defense.

Responsibilities

1. Designs, develops, and executes studies and analyses to enhance understanding of both the WMD threat to U.S. interests and U.S. responses to prevent, mitigate, or eliminate the threat in support of the Center's JPME and research activities. Coordinates the efforts of other staff in these areas.
2. Teaches, develops curricula and tools, and administers programs in support of the WMD Center's responsibilities for Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) education. Coordinates activities of other staff in this area.
3. Designs, develops, and executes exercises, workshops, conferences, and/or other meetings in support of the Center's JPME and research responsibilities, to enhance understanding of both WMD threats to U.S. interests, and U.S. responses to prevent, mitigate, or eliminate the threat. Coordinates the efforts of other staff in these areas.
4. May supervise the work of more junior personnel, as assigned, including setting annual work objectives, conducting performance evaluations, identifying training requirements, monitoring work performance. and setting work priorities.
5. Interacts on a professional basis and builds productive relationships with Center staff and personnel from the National Defense University, U.S. Government agencies, foreign governments, international organizations, academia, and the private sector, as required.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Background or Security Investigation: This is a Special Sensitive position which requires a background investigation. The individual selected for this position is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security determination to occupy a Special Sensitive position within the agency as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

Possess at least an earned Master's or equivalent graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent) in a discipline relevant to countering weapons of mass destruction; an earned doctorate or other terminal degree is strongly preferred.
- Has a minimum of 5 years of experience (Research Fellow) and more than 10 years of professional experience (Senior Research Fellow) in a field relevant to countering weapons of mass destruction, preferably in a senior or leadership position associated with civilian or military components of the U.S. Government.
- Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop curricula and pedagogical tools, and administer programs for graduate-level education.
- Demonstrate the ability to undertake research and analysis projects related to countering WMD, to include serving as the principal investigator, conducting literature reviews and interviews, organizing and leading workshops and tabletop exercises, preparing and supervising the preparation of cogent written products, and developing and delivering concise and effective oral presentations.
- Demonstrate the ability to interact of a professional basis and build productive relationships with Center staff and personnel from the National Defense University, U.S. Government agencies, foreign governments, international organizations, academia, and the private sector, and to lead collaborative efforts.

This is a Title 10 Excepted Service Appointment. Appointment is not to exceed 3 years with the possibility for extension. How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

A screening panel will review your resume and narrative answers to the assessment questions to evaluate your qualifications for the position. NDU uses a multi-tier selection process for academic positions. You must attach a separate document with answers to the questions listed below. The following questions will be reviewed by the NDU screening panel.

Describe your professional experience in the countering WMD area. Identify what aspects of WMD you worked on, what organizations you worked for and with, at what level you served, and your duties and responsibilities. Identify your most notable accomplishments in the WMD area.

Describe your ability and years of experience in teaching, developing curricula, and/or developing pedagogical tools, and administer programs for graduate-level education. Identify the types of education support you provided, in what subjects, and for what organizations. Discuss your experience administering programs. Indicate to what extent your graduate education support concerned WMD matters. Describe your knowledge of the Joint Professional Military Education system.

Describe your experience and ability to undertake studies and analysis projects related to countering WMD. Identify the focus of your studies and analysis, what products (written and oral) you produced, which written products were published or posted and by whom, the organizations for whom you did the research or analysis, and your understanding of the impact of your efforts. Describe your experience in organizing and leading workshops and tabletop exercises.

Provide examples of how you have built productive relationships through professional interactions with colleagues, U.S. and foreign government officials and military officers, officials of international organizations, academics and/or private sector professionals. Describe the levels at which you have built those professional interactions. Describe your leadership and supervision experience.
