Summary

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security Office of the Chief Readiness Support Officer, Washington, District of Columbia.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing periodic summaries, presentations and annual progress reports on sustainability, and sustainability metrics for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Providing technical assistance, consultation, and serves as a liaison with oversight organizations, other federal agencies.
  • Developing the Department?s Strategic Sustainability Report and Implementation Plan by compiling organizational information from Components and different lines of business in the areas of high performance sustainable buildings.
  • Reviewing planned policy and program initiatives and, as required, developing and recommending new policy and procedures.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Specialized Experience requirement as noted below.

Specialized Experience:
To qualify for GS-14: You must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service OR equivalent public or private sector experience performing the following duties:
  • applying Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards to develop sustainable strategies and programs;
  • providing Green Globes or LEED assessments for sustainability programs and due diligence in the areas of high performance sustainable buildings, and sustainable buildings rating systems;
  • developing policies, procedures, guidance and annual reports in relation to Building Rating Systems such as the Guiding Principles for Federal Leadership in High Performance and Sustainable Buildings, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, Green Globes, and International Green Construction Code; AND
  • providing technical input for potential LEED-registered projects which led to completing LEED certified buildings.

Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requires each and every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background investigation for Secret Security clearance as a condition of placement in this Noncritical-Sensitive position. This review includes financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.

Pursuant to Executive Order 12654 and DHS policy, DHS is committed to maintaining a drug-free workplace and, therefore, conducts random and other drug testing of its employees in order to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
