Summary

About the Position:

Serves as a Security Guard for the protection of government personnel, property, and technologies against sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction.

This position is restricted to persons entitled to Veterans Preference. If there are no Veterans Preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Stands guard at a variety of fixed posts within the installation, exercising stringent security measures necessary to monitor and provide appropriate level of control of personnel and vehicles on the installation.
  • Restricts admission of persons who have not displayed proper identification.
  • Searches vehicles as required and manually operates traffic control to regulate flow of traffic entering and leaving the installation.
  • Patrols designated areas by vehicle or foot to check perimeter locks, fence gates and restricted areas.

  • This position requires incumbent to successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid training.
  • May be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves and other personal protective equipment.

  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and semi-annually thereafter.
  • In accordance with AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
  • Incumbent must wear prescribed uniform.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • This position requires incumbent to successfully complete security guard training.


Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing vehicle searches, confiscating unauthorized items, responding to critical incidents, verifying identification, controlling access to premises, and providing information on regulations, polices, or procedures; operating a variety of communications/electronics equipment, including radios, CCTVs and intrusion detection systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
