Facilities Maintenance, a department in GW’s Division of Operations under the Executive Vice President and CFO portfolio, manages and maintains GW’s property and grounds on all three of GW’s campuses. Our maintenance team includes electricians, carpenters, painters, HVAC technicians, locksmiths, and plumbers. The Facilities Maintenance, Operations & Maintenance Department is seeking a Senior Locksmith for the Lockshop. This position reports directly to the shop manager.

This senior position typically performs minor maintenance and repair work on buildings and equipment in a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks, under limited supervision. This role is an experienced tradesman in locksmithing. The Senior Locksmith will create keys, locksets, maintain records for keycode files, and perform all other related duties assigned.

Additional responsibilities include: 
- Make and shape keys from originals and lock combinations.
- Assign, inspect and assist in work performed by employees on large jobs as directed, ensuring work is performed according to proper safety standards and, if applicable, to the District of Columbia Building Code Regulations.
- Assist in estimating costs, manpower, and material.
- Maintain records of key code files and materials expended on each job.
- Review hardware schedules for new construction to assure compliance with University standards and the District of Columbia Building Codes.
- Issue locksets and other pertinent hardware to locksmiths for new installations.
Works with Safety and Security and customers to develop master keying requirements for new and renovated University facilities.
- Respond to emergency call-backs as needed.
- Attend classes and meetings periodically to maintain a current working knowledge of the trade.
- Oversee training and education of Locksmiths, Sr. Trades Helpers or Trades Helpers.
- Install, maintain and repair locks on doors, windows, safes and other equipment according to written job orders.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:  Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
