Title: External Relations Associate Reports to: Government and External Relations Director Staff reporting to this position : None Position Classification: Exempt, Full time The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is a nonprofit, nonpartisan research and grantmaking organization that engages with academics and policymakers to better understand and address the effects of economic inequality in the United States. We have an immediate opening for a External Relations Associate to use Equitable Growth's cutting-edge research to create, coordinate, and manage relationships, alliances, and partnerships with policymakers and elevate research on a range of economic policy issues related to the Equitable Growth mission. The right candidate will be skilled at cultivating relationships, a believer in the power of evidence-backed research, a highly organized administrator, and an excellent problem solver. Responsibilities include: Taking the lead to create, coordinate, and manage outreach to both federal and state policymakers and advocates on economic policy issues as part of Equitable Growth's External Relations team In collaboration with Equitable Growth's Policy, Communications, and Design teams, elevating academic research on inequality and growth into policy-relevant resources and narrative, including helping to produce fact sheets, blog posts, charts, and other materials that concisely convey research findings for a lay audience Coordinating and setting up meetings and other engagement including briefings, dinners, conferences, and other convenings between Equitable Growth's network of academic researchers, its community of leaders at think tanks, and key federal and state policymakers Identifying congressional offices, federal agencies, state lawmakers, and other policymakers for appropriate outreach by Equitable Growth In coordination with the Academic Programs team, identifying and engaging with key stakeholders in the academic community Updating and maintaining customer relationship management, or CRM, database and other contact lists to enable efficient and regular outreach to partners via newsletters, e-blasts, meeting requests, and event invites Identifying and elevating opportunities to address federal and state policymakers' and decision-makers' economic policy questions via an academic research agenda Other duties as assigned Qualifications and requirements: Bachelor's degree preferred At least 24 years of experience working on economic policy issues at either the federal or state level A track record of cultivating productive relationships and influencing key stakeholders as part of campaigns for evidence-based public policy Sound judgment and ability to engage across a broad spectrum of ideas and issues Experience with organizing public and private meetings and events, especially those that involve multifaceted logistical challenges and high-profile attendees An excellent candidate will be familiar with domestic economic policy, government processes at both the federal and state level, and relevant advocacy and trade groups, or some combination of those three Strong written and verbal communication skills Highly organized, with strong administrative skills and attention to detail Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work well on a team The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is actively committed to promoting and maintaining the importance of diversity to its work.
