ThePhysician (Urologist) carries out the clinical surgical duties on the subject of diseases of the male and female urinary tract system and the male reproductive organs; kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra and the male reproductive organs.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the operating room and perform preoperative and post operative evaluation for surgical patients and discusses with staff.
  • Participate in a team approach to ensure appropriate patient assessments, anticipate patient care needs, prevent avoidable complications and achieve optimal patient conditions.
  • Act in adherence to surgical care in accordance with ethical principals.
  • Carry out clinical duties of comprehensive care of ambulatory patients in the outpatient Urology Clinic as well as care of all inpatients and patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
  • Perform clinic examinations, management of new patient consultations, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Participate with resident and medical student education.
  • Assist with Residency Training Program.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/19/2019.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience:
  • Board certified or Board Eligible Urologist
  • Academically oriented.
  • Interest in general urology.
  • Fellowship training or special interest in minimally invasive Oncologic Surgery.
  • Fellowship training or special interest in stone surgery.
  • Interest in teaching and training Urology residents.

Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patient and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, and able to shift priorities based on patient needs.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of 26 days per leave year (1 day per pay period).
