Responsibilities

• Provide leadership in planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating complex statistical research cancer programs.
• Manage complex multidisciplinary contracts, grants, and/or cooperative agreements for one or more national programs.
• Establish goals and objectives for major research programs.
• Direct a program of studies and research in the development of new methodologies and techniques in mathematical statistics, biostatistics, and/or epidemiologic techniques.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-15 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:

Minimum Educational Requirement:
You must have a degree that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics (of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics). Courses acceptable toward meeting the mathematics course requirement must have included at least four of the following: differential calculus, integral calculus, advanced calculus, theory of equations, vector analysis, advanced algebra, linear algebra, mathematical logic, differential equations, or any other advanced course in mathematics for which one of these was a prerequisite. Courses in mathematical statistics or probability theory with a prerequisite of elementary calculus or more advanced courses will be accepted toward meeting the mathematics requirements, with the provision that the same course cannot be counted toward both the mathematics and the statistics requirement.
OR
A combination of education and experience - at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should include evidence of statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying known statistical techniques to data such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

In addition, to meeting the Minimum Educational Requirement, you must meet the following Additional Qualification Requirement: You must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing leadership in planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating statistical cancer research programs; establishing goals and objectives for statistical analysis of cancer research programs; managing statistical research contracts, grants, and/or cooperative agreements; guiding and directing basic research in mathematical and applied statistics as it relates to the design and analysis of cancer research; and preparing statistical annual reports of cancer research studies.
