Overview We are seeking an mid-level RF Spectrum Engineer in Greenbelt, MD to support our Space Communications Network Services Contract (SCNS) with NASA. This position provides support to the NASA GSFC Spectrum Management Office in the area of frequency spectrum management and will require learning about satellite and terrestrial communications systems (including link budgets, general radio theory and basic orbital mechanics), and domestic and international regulations governing the use of the radio frequency spectrum and satellite orbits. Responsibilities What you'll do Determine the performance of Radio Frequency (RF) communication links and create link budgets using analytical methods or by applying analysis and simulation tools. Perform Radio Frequency interference and compatibility analysis for Space based communication systems. Work with NASA projects to develop national filings required to register communications systems, which will include use of Spectrum XXI and El Cid. Conduct technical studies and prepare analysis packages for coordination meetings with other agencies, including DoD, DoC, ESA, and JAXA. Perform data reductions, analyze, and document results for presentation to customers. Use your knowledge of digital communications, RF system analysis, FEC coding, and communications engineering. Have in depth understanding of communication systems such as phase modulation, spread spectrum, signal detection, signal and interference analysis, baseband filtering, data formatting, etc. Utilize your knowledge of spectrum regulations, regulatory approval process, radio frequency compatibility/interference assessment. Be familiar with antennas, antenna polarization, power spectral density & spectral roll-off, Power flux density, Noise density and CCSDS standards. Develop innovative technical solutions to complex problems and making recommendations for improvement Be familiar with analysis software such as Matlab and Simulink. Qualifications You'd be a great fit if You have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related field from an accredited University and a minimum of 3+ years of direct engineering experience ( or you have an MSEE and a minimum of 1+ years of direct engineering experience). You are knowledgeable of digital communications, RF system analysis, FEC coding, and communications engineering. 1+ years of experience with Satellite Communications Engineering or RF Engineering. Able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship. It would be even better if you Have a master's degree. 1+ years of experience in Spectrum Management Engineering 1+ years of direct experience in the application of the ITU Radio Regulations and US regulations. Knowledge of Satellite Tool Kit (STK) and/or Visualyse is a plus Knowledge determining the performance of Radio Frequency (RF) communication links and creating link budgets using analytical methods or by applying analysis and simulation tools.
