As an Office Automation Pathways Student Trainee, GS-399-2, you will perform the following duties:
  • Providing clerical support.
  • Typing and preparing various correspondence to include letters, memos, forms, certificates, statistical data, briefing charts; and reports from specific/detailed instructions, handwritten drafts and notes.
  • Reviewing documents to ensure proper format, spelling, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation.
  • Organizing and maintaining files and records according to known policy.
  • Selecting, rearranging, and consolidating data from a number of source documents based on instructions.
  • Arranging for conferences and committee meetings, including such matters as location, schedule, agenda and attendance list.
  • Assembling background material for attendees and supervisor.
  • Receives visitors and telephone calls, referring them to the proper person or furnishing information request.

  • Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited institution.
  • Must sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement.
  • Must be and remain in good academic standing.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.


In order to meet basic eligibility requirements for this Expected Service Pathways Internship appointment, applicants must meet the definition of a "Student" at the time of appointment and throughout the duration of the appointment.

Student means an individual who has been accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93-842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this program. Special Provisions for Interns with Previous Related Education or Experience: Previous education and/or experience may be evaluated to determine the highest grade level for which the applicant is qualified.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Please provide the beginning and ending dates of volunteer experience stated as MM/YYYY; and total hours worked per week.

This position may be eligible for non-competitive conversion upon completion of program requirements.
