Summary

This vacancy is for a Security Assistant position in the Administrative and Customer Service Division located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station.

This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Security Assistant, GS-0086-06, FPL 7 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze security forms documentation in preparation to meet OPM standards for case scheduling.
  • Develop and monitor procedures for handling incoming FBI Criminal History Record check results, court documentation and other applicant information, in accordance with OPM standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact/assistance to customers inquiring about CIS policies/security process by; screening incoming calls/receiving visitors to ascertain the nature of the call/visit.
  • Maintain all case files in an electronic filing/database system, ensuring all components of the case file are uploaded correctly upon receipt.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: For the GS-06, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: reviewing and analyzing security forms to determine completeness; reviewing records and determining when additional information should be requested from the applicant; assisting and answering security process related inquires; managing and tracking applicants in an electronic filing/database system.

Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

  • Ability to schedule and conduct fingerprinting appointments and obtain supporting documents from the subject to assist the Specialist in determining suitability.
  • Knowledge of personnel security functions within a Security Investigative branch to handle and/or refer inquires to proper source.
