Summary

This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent will conduct major analyses that support the Department of Defense's (DOD's) implementation of joint concepts.

Responsibilities

As a JOINT WARFARE CAPABILITES ANALYST at the GS-0301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Assess U.S. warfighting capabilities, including mobilization, deployment, and sustained joint combat operations and provide expert advice to senior managers.
  • Identify and convene working groups and teams, including cross-functional representatives; gather and analyze data; synthesize information; draw conclusions from the data collected; prepare reports of findings, including recommendations resolving major problems; and presents findings to senior managers.
  • Research, prepare, and consolidate information and cost data that supports analyses for recurring and ad hoc reporting requirements, including reports to members of Congress and reports that support congressional testimony pertaining to concept implementation and funding assessments.
  • Lead efforts and play a major role in assessing the capability of the joint force and the potential impact of concept implementation on the joint force structure and strategies that support the DOD's warfighting capabilities in the areas of doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel and facilities (DOTMLPF).

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14 grade level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Conducting analyses and assessments that support joint force responsibilities to provide prioritized capabilities, as well as prioritized capability shortfalls.
  • Conducting complex quantitative, qualitative, cost benefit, and similar types of analyses using advance tools and techniques to resolve highly difficult issues and problems.
  • Analyzing and developing methodology to identify and evaluate short- and long-range trends in joint force capabilities and determines resource needs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
