VP of Government Relations

Responsibilities:Oversees and maintains appropriate systems and procedures to track the status and content of pending federal and state legislation and regulations affecting the Company.Drafts and coordinates analyses of new legislation or regulations, amendments to pending legislation, amendments to existing legislation and rules.Produces comprehensive written documents such as testimonies, statements, letters, briefings, presentations, advocacy packets, and other informational materials to advance the Company's legislative and regulatory goals.Develops and maintains state legislative, congressional and agency contacts needed to protect and further the overall business strategy of the Company.Develops and maintains close working relationships with industry contacts, trade associations and establishes cooperative alliances needed to protect and further the overall business strategy of the Company.Meets with state legislative, congressional and agency policymakers and staff and communicates the Company's position on key legislative and regulatory matters.Prepares and distributes to executive management regular summaries and analysis of pending legislative issues.Drafts and presents legislative proposals and/or amendments reflecting the Company's position.Understands potential legal and cultural barriers to company's goals and creates solutions for those barriers.Develops written materials, justifications and guidance on public policy matters.Represents the Company within key membership trade associations, organizations and coalitions, as well as internal working groups and committees.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree required, with related public policy and government relations experience. Law degree or graduate degree in relevant field strongly preferred.A self-starter who can think strategically to help address problems or advance business objectives, and who understands the relevance of government action on business decisions.Team player, with the ability to work collaboratively with other members of the legal team and across business functions.Outstanding interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.Strong verbal and written communication and negotiation skills and ability to provide clear, concise and practical advice to other team members in a timely manner.Ability to work effectively, manage complex projects and multitask successfully in a dynamic, fast-paced and complex business environment.Able to discern and analyze the impact of multiple issues on a given situation, ability to work in several areas of the law and balance multiple priorities, and highly analytical and ability to provide sound business judgment.Self-motivation and a willingness to take ownership of projects, as well as humility and integrity.Ability to work in bi-partisan and non-partisan environment.Ability to interpret US law and influence state and federal policy and law.Knowledge of congressional and state legislative and agency procedures, public policy initiatives, and political trends.Familiarity with federal and state regulations related to consumer credit, including but not limited to, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Truth-in-Lending Act, Fair CreditReporting Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act and financial consumer protection laws.This position requires regularly scheduled travel to Headquarters.
