Responsible for advanced-level analytical and technical work in the creation and management of the Board of Supervisors Board Package. Independently leads, coordinates, develops, manages and maintains all agendas and packages for each board meeting. Liaison to board members and their offices on all matters pertaining to board meetings, board package and board assignments. Manages and executes Diligent Board Books for each board meeting. Prepares, analyzes and reviews board items to determine that the content is edited and aligned with all Fairfax County codes, policies and procedures, and is published in the appropriate board package according to guidelines and regulations. Researches and creates board items and Planning Commission sheets that go before the board of Supervisors. Schedules all public hearings going before the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission. Analyzes and recommends timing for authorizations and public hearings that are needed to meet regulations and be in compliance with Fairfax County code and advertising requirements. Participates in coverage of Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission meetings, as needed, which may extend into evening hours. Monitors, assesses and reports on business processes and activities in all areas regarding the board package and scheduling of public hearings to ensure efficiency of existing processes. Writes, edits and finalizes detailed reports and presentations. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Illustrative Duties

Performs a wide-range of professional work in multiple administration functions within an organizational unit including analysis and project management;
Performs a variety of technical and professional work related to monitoring and reporting on departmental business processes, activities, and outcomes;
Serves as the point-person and liaison within the department and with central county departments regarding a designated program and functional areas of responsibility;
Prepares reports and presentations of analysis and findings.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the mission, goals and objectives of the organizational unit, program or activities to which incumbent is assigned;
Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques governing management, organization, operations and programmatic services;
Ability to identify and describe a range of possible solutions for solving business problems;
Ability to use word processing and presentation software to prepare documents, and to use spreadsheet and statistical analysis software packages to store, manipulate, analyze and present data.

Employment Standards

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field related to the assigned functional area; plus two years of professional work experience within the functional area.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Not applicable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in management, public administration, or related field. Experience working directly with elected or appointed officials. Proficient in Foxit and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience working with audio recording software such as FTR, board package software such as Diligent Board Books, and web posting. Strong skills and significant work experience in note-taking, proofreading and editing, with attention to detail. Ability to exercise tact and discretion, and interact in a customer service manner. Ability to work independently and analyze complex tasks, with limited direction and to handle competing tasks simultaneously

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check.
Ability to work occasional evening and night hours, and potentially weekend hours.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Primarily sedentary, performed in a normal office environment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
