Responsibilities

Responsible for the development, planning, organizing and facilitation of a comprehensive year round health and fitness program within the Semper Fit program at a Marine Corps Installation.

Will serve as the installations Liaison with agencies internal and external to the Marine Corps for the purpose of enhancing the health promotion program; fitness program, and assist in the daily operation of the installation's fitness facility. Incumbent will develop, coordinate and integrate Health Promotion/Fitness Programs with Marine and Family Services, Navy Health Clinic, Safety Office, Employee Assistance Program Coordinator, and other base wellness activities as deemed appropriate to the activity; plan and conduct comprehensive programs regarding the health and physical wellbeing of beneficiaries to include the following elements: physical activity, injury prevention, nutrition, overweight and obesity, substance abuse, mental health (suicide prevention and stress management), responsible sexual behavior and disease management. Instructs individuals and groups on the proper implementation of health related change, maintenance/improvement of conditioning including cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength/endurance, and flexibility training. Conducts a variety of testing and evaluations to included consultations that measure many aspects of health and fitness. Testing may include body fat, aerobic capacity, blood pressure, athletic/tactical performance, strength, flexibility, and muscular endurance.

Incumbent will provide support to ensure annual required training is accomplished at the unit level; coordinate with Unit Commanders on Installation outreach programs to include: health risk assessments, health screenings, seminars, classes, workshops, and annual training requirements.

Plan, coordinate and conduct recurring and non-recurring education and awareness activities and special events; establish a comprehensive annual plan, to include program goals and objectives that align with Marine Corps Policy, program metrics and the Healthy People 2020 objectives; the plan will identify and prioritize health risks of the given population, and customize comprehensive health promotion and management strategies to improve the populations overall health status. Establish monthly calendars for scheduled activities in support of health promotion and the national observances and publicizes activities.

Survey and evaluate patron interest and needs to determine desires of the serviced community; continually evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing activities from participant response, resources, and program objectives; adapt and alters program activities in the light of findings.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

A four-year degree in health promotion, exercise science, kinesiology, health education, public health, or a related field is required. Minimum of three years' experience in the health field with health and fitness as a primary focus. Certification in health promotion and/or fitness from an accredited provider will be required. The certification must be kept current throughout. Must maintain basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillator, and First Aid certification Must be capable of traveling to various sites on the installation to oversee the lifestyle habits of participating beneficiaries. The incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.
