Responsibilities

  • Establish deadlines, priorities, work sequences and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods and policies set by supervisors.
  • Assign work and provides technical direction; help in accomplishing difficult work steps.
  • Observe work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems.
  • Reassign personnel and coordinate work among the workforce and with other supervisors to maintain progress and to meet schedules.
  • Inspect completed work for quality and work order requirements.
  • Supervise employees who operate one or more types of gasoline or diesel powered backhoes, heavy-duty pay loaders and dump trucks with a loading capacity of 12-ton, and road graders.
  • Plan the use of worker's equipment, facilities, materials.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess and retain a valid state drivers license and must pass testing for and retain a government drivers license.
  • May be required to transport others in and around the cemetery.
  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position and incumbent is expected to report to or remain at worksite during weather closure situations.
  • Drug testing is required.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: assigning work and providing technical direction to employees; supervising employees who operate one or more types of gasoline or diesel powered backhoes, heavy-duty pay loaders and dump trucks with a loading capacity of 12-ton, and road graders; observing work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Exerts strenuous physical effort in frequently adjusting and maneuvering equipment/attachments; subject to constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving of hands, arms, feet and legs. Subject to strain caused by vibrations of equipment and attachments. Occasionally incumbent may be required to lift headstones or sections of pipe with assistance up to 50 pounds per individual.
  • Works in all types of weather on various surfaces, often in an open drivers seat. Subject to constant exposure to noise, vibration, dust, dirt fumes and injury when moving heavy items into place.
