Responsibilities

  • You will use hand tools of the trade (e.g., screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, cable pullers) to perform electrical work.
  • You will follow schematics to install and operate electrical equipment (e.g., light switches, circuit breakers, fuses, relays, outlets).
  • You will install electrical components (e.g., outlets, relays, switches, fixtures, circuits) in new and existing electrical systems.
  • You will recognize defects in electrical systems or circuitry (e.g., overheating motors or transformers, broken wires, blown fuses).

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do work of an
Electrician without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by 1) Repair and maintain electrical components, fixtures, and wiring in
buildings, facilities, and structures in compliance with National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and
engineering drawings. 2) Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering, drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair
manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits,
systems, equipment and controls; 3) Replace worn or bad switches, relays, and outlets by unscrewing or cutting wiring from connections,
inserting the replacement, and splicing, tightening, and soldering wiring to connections; and 4) Install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot equipment
using 600 volts and below including 120, 208,240, 277 and 480 volts. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee
who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Works from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard to reach places requiring long periods of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling,
climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts that weigh 20-40 lobs and,
occasionally, may lift or move heavier equipment with assistance.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work is performed both inside and outside. May be required to make repairs and installations in bad weather. May work in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on or aboard ships. May occasionally be exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns,
and rotary devices such as electrical motors. May be exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
