The Federal Regulatory Commission's role is to oversee various aspects of the energy industry, including transmission of electricity, natural gas and oil. We also analyze proposals to build liquefied natural gas terminals and interstate natural gas pipelines and license hydropower projects. To help support the modernization of the electric system here in the U.S., we are focusing on issues associated with a smarter grid. Join us and help make a difference!

This position is located in the Office of the Executive Director, IT Project Management, within the Chief Information Officer (CIO). The CIO develops, coordinates, and maintains Commission-wide strategic and business information technology (IT) plans; develops the IT enterprise architecture; and ensures that all IT initiatives support all aspects of the Commission business plan and are compliant with Office of Management and Budget (OMB) directives.

Major Duties for the IT Project Manager:

  • Plans and directs agency-wide IT projects involving innovative concepts or approaches where precedents do not exist, and large numbers of people or multiple Offices are affected.
  • Determines the appropriate products or services with stakeholder clients to define the project scope, requirements, and deliverables.
  • Manages project resources and monitors their output to mitigate risks. Takes immediate corrective action when problems arise.
  • Pro-actively collaborates and negotiates with other CIO staff and managers to synchronize and integrate team's efforts/initiatives with the work of other divisions on related issues.
  • Enable cost efficient and effective use of IT
  • Execute IT capital planning and investment analysis in support of Commission Strategic Plan and Budget priorities
  • Communicate with Commission staff to explain complex requirements, systems and procedures.

In order to meet the minimum requirements for this position, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level. Specialized Experience is defined as: Significant experience in Project Management, gathering IT systems and software requirements, and managing IT projects. Experience should demonstrate a full understanding of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and knowledge of the Agile development methodology. Possession of a PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification is highly preferred.
