Responsibilities

  • Assess manual and automated calibration procedures to provide direction to managers and supervisors.
  • Develop energy and water efficiency management instructions and standard operating procedures for the Command.
  • Create technical plans for system development, fielding, and sustainment processes.
  • Serves as a senior backflow preventer certification inspector for the region.
  • Performs acceptance testing of new backflow preventers and periodic testing of existing backflow preventers.
  • Prepares cost estimates for contracts and task orders for backflow preventer installation and repair.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade in the Federal Service performing the following duties: 1) Performs installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, modification, certification, and record keeping of backflow preventers for portable water production and distribution systems; 2) Provides advisory services for conducting certification inspections of backflow preventers; 3) Coordinates, schedules and performs inspections, tests and certifications for backflow prevention and cross connection programs; and 4) Utilizes visual inspections, building plans, blueprints, sketches to plan and lay out and/or modify pipe routing the backflow prevention assembly (BPA) installation.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Work may require some physical exertion with recurring periods of driving, bending, crouching, stooping, crawling, stretching, reaching, climbing, digging, and cutting of vegetation or similar activities during field visits. Work may require recurring lifting and moderately heavy items, such as record file boxes, project drawings, and other similar items.

Work is performed in both an office setting and at various work sites within 60 miles of the office. Regular work may be inside or outside in which case prolonged exposure to the weather elements is possible. Work involves traveling to contractor work sites that have moderate risks and discomforts that may require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines and possible exposure to loud noises, irritant chemicals and explosive materials.

Work requires employees to drive a vehicle; therefore a valid driver's license is required. Employee must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license. Air travel may be required periodically.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required in certain areas.

Incumbent must maintain valid Backflow Testing/Inspection certification and cross connection Survey certification.

Non-Critical Sensitive, Secret access: Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
