The primary responsibility of a faculty member at Northern Virginia Community College is to provide quality instruction to students. The major emphasis is on excellent teaching by working with students in classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities to help students fully develop their interests and abilities to become better people, better workers, and better citizens.Duties and ResponsibilitiesFull-time teaching faculty members are responsible for teaching various courses in engineering, as well as engineering-related mathematical concepts and related coursework. Courses are offered in traditional, hybrid, and distance learning environments. All faculty members must be available to teach day, evening, and weekend classes, serve as faculty advisers, serve on committees, and participate in curriculum development. Engineering faculty members are expected to mentor, encourage, and inspire first and second-year engineering students to complete their studies at NOVA and actively assist students in preparing to enter engineering programs at other academic institutions. This is appointment has a normal teaching load of 15 credits per semester.A preferred candidate will meet one or more of the following criteria: * PhD or equivalent in an engineering related discipline * Demonstrated experience teaching college-level engineering or engineering-related courses * Relevant work experience as an engineer in the public or private sector * An educational background that includes graduate-level coursework in mechanical, civil, structural, aerospace, or electrical engineering * An educational background that includes at least 18 graduate semester hours in mathematics or physics * Experience in computer aided design
