Summary

About the Position: Serves as a lead security guard for the National Museum of the United States Army (NMUSA) and outlying buildings, responsible for the security of the NMUSA during assigned shift which includes security of staff, visitors, property, material, and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Make note of work not meeting established requirements and refers problem matters to the supervisor. Answers questions of employees on procedures and regulatory directives and obtains decisions and information on problems.
  • Provide information to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance and personnel needs.
  • Direct and coordinates the response of operating forces, to the maximum extent practicable, and provides on-scene direction to resolve operational emergencies.
  • Provide protective services work in guarding and protecting Federally owned property, buildings, and equipment against trespass, theft, fire, and accidental or willful damage or destruction.
  • Ensure all assigned security guards are properly dispatched to monitoring personnel access into restricted areas using both manual and electronic methods.
  • Perform static security post or patrol duties. Directs visitors, vendors, and contractors to the appropriate office, placement of and security of surveillance equipment as needed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This position is a TERM position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. This Definition of Specialized Experience is typical of word performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Specialized experience is defined as:Making daily assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas; Making informal suggestions on employee personnel actions; providing security during sensitive equipment or supply movements. Ensuring all preliminary investigations are properly documented as an incident report.
