Summary

That group communicates regularly with and provides assistance to Congressional committees; prepares policy studies and multiyear budget projections; and produces cost estimates for legislation affecting Medicare, the Federal Employees Health Benefits program, and programs of the Public Health Service.

Responsibilities
Among the unit chiefs responsibilities are the following: Organize, supervise, and evaluate the groups work to ensure high-quality, nonpartisan analyses andestimates, often within tight deadlines; Coordinate preliminary analyses for proposals; Review and edit CBO cost estimates of legislation; Coordinate the preparation of CBOs 10-year baseline spending projections and its analyses of thePresidents budgetary proposals for the relevant program areas; and Help develop and review CBOs studies of health-related policy issues, including cost analyses for avariety of health studies and budget options

Qualifications
CBO is looking for a leader with superior analytical skills who can manage and motivate a highly skilled staff, help them develop professionally, and encourage collaboration that crosses organizational lines. The position requires an ability to convey complex material clearly and concisely and to communicate effectively with Congressional staff. Candidates must be able to manage a variety of work products in a complex and constantly evolving legislative environment. Experience with the federal budget and knowledge of Congressional budget and legislative processes are strongly preferred, as is a familiarity with the financing of Medicare, other health care systems, or prescription drug coverage in the United States.

Candidates must have an advanced degree in public policy, public administration, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
