Responsibilities

As a Supervisory Health Statistician, you serve as a Branch Chief for the Data and Quality Branch and exercise the full range of administrative and technical supervisory duties.

Your major duties and responsibilities
  • Serving as a Senior Statistician with responsibility to design, approve, and monitor statistical projects, studies, paper articles and reports related to the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of data collection methods, instruments content and design, data processing protocols, data quality control and assurance and management of data collection.
  • Managing site visits to grantees domestically or to international recipients.
  • Overseeing the preparation of data reports for the purpose of meeting grant management requirements and for providing stewardship to the grantee.
  • Providing data reports used for monitoring, managing and evaluating cooperative agreements to host country governments, NGOs, civil society organizations (CSOs) and others.

INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR STATISTICIAN SERIES, 1530:
  • Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.
  • OR
  • Combination of education and experience-courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience in additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the education requirement above, to qualify for this position at the GS-14 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-13 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: providing professional statistical technical advice and consultation to internal and external stakeholders to address public health program challenges; serving as a technical advisor on national or international public health data collection projects and studies; and designing and conducting statistical studies using applications such SAS, SPSS, Stata, R, Matlab, or similar analytical packages for the purpose of identifying, analyzing, and reporting of health-related issues.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
