Summary
This vacancy is for an Investigator, open-continuous, position in the Office of Investigations, located at the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC), Office of Inspector General (OIG). The Office of Investigations conducts investigations into alleged violations of laws, regulations, and other irregularities by employees, grantees, loan recipients or contractors, and reports the results with recommendations for corrective action to Department officials.

Responsibilities
The individual selected for this position will:
*Major Duty 1: Conducts inquiries and investigations involving alleged improprieties by DOC officials, breaches of program integrity, and allegations of whistleblower retaliation. Assures prompt attention to investigations initiated at the request/direction of OIG, the Department, Congress, GAO, etc.
*Major Duty 2: Conducts investigative interviews, record searches and analyses, and obtains sworn statements and documents, where appropriate, from witnesses, complainants and informants, subjects, Governmental officials, and public and private persons at all levels.
*Major Duty 3: Prepares high quality investigative reports, to include appropriate recommendations and analysis.
*Major Duty 4: Establishes and maintains liaison at the highest executive level with program and administrative officials as well as representatives of other federal agencies, local law enforcement agencies, and officials of state, municipal, and private enterprises.
Travel Required
Occasional travel - As condition of employment, the selectee may be subject to a geographic relocation within the United States in order to meet agency needs and must be willing to sign a mobility agreement. Travel is required.

In addition to meeting the Basic Entry Requirements above, applicants must have the experience listed below.
For the GS-11: Fifty-two weeks of experience at the GS-09 level, or equivalent, that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Knowledge of generally accepted investigative principles, techniques, methods and procedures applicable to administrative investigative function. The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector.
For the GS-12: Fifty-two weeks of experience at the GS-11 level, or equivalent, that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.- Coordinates with other law enforcement agencies nationwide as required to further investigate situations, individuals, and/or groups. Provides technical guidance and direction by coordinating the staff's activities and, when necessary, reviewing their findings for adequacy of coverage and adherence to investigative policy.
For the GS-13: Fifty-two weeks of experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent, that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.- Participate in highly sensitive investigations, to include those requested by Congress, the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) and senior Departmental officials, into alleged violations of noncompliance with requirements of legislation and or administrative policies, rules, regulations and orders.
**Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
