Responsibilities

The Bilingual (Spanish) Deputy Clerk works in the operational divisions of the District of Columbia Courts providing administrative and clerical support and providing exceptional customer-service in English and Spanish to the public, judicial officers, attorneys or staff. Duties include some or all of the following:
  • Assists general public, attorneys, judicial officers and staff.
  • Provides exceptional customer service in English and Spanish.
  • Reviews and processes documents and orders.
  • Completes forms or other materials such as warrants, summonses, complaints, and subpoenas.
  • Provides and receives information from citizens, police officers and witnesses as necessary for clarifying facts or preparing reports.
  • Maintains calendars, appointments, juries, and services.
  • Collects and compiles statistical data.
  • Administers oaths or affirmations.
  • Types correspondence, reports, and other documents.
  • Files jackets and case documents.
  • Enters and retrieves data using automated databases and manual logs.

The selected candidate must be able to speak, interpret, read and write Spanish and English fluently.

  • A probationary period of one (1) year must be successfully completed.
  • Background and security investigation are required.
  • Candidates must be able to speak, interpret and write English and Spanish.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High-school diploma or GED certificate, plus two (2) years of clerical or administrative experience.

Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task are required.

Must be able to speak, interpret, read and write Spanish and English fluently.

Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts are required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.


Education

To qualify based on education, upload copy of your college transcript or degree. The transcript must show the name of the college or university, your name, list of courses with credit hours, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.

Foreign Education: Education completed outside the United States must have been evaluated by a private U.S. organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials, commonly called a credential evaluation service or education to meet the above requirements.

Additional information

This job is being filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive civil service.

Please note there is a mandatory one year probationary period for all non-judicial new employees.

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Testing will be required of qualified candidates in keyboarding (40 WPM corrected for errors), language arts (grammar, punctuation, and spelling) and numeric filing. If you previously took these tests and passed, please let the HR professional know. In addition, bilingual candidates must pass a test assessing the ability to speak, read and write in Spanish.
