Summary

This position is located in the Office of the Administrator of the National Gallery of Art, within the Office of Protection Services (AOP) and reports to the AOP Senior Technician and AOP Technical Services Supervisor. Performs duties in the installation, programming, modification, calibration, alignment, fabrication, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of the Office of Protection Services, Technical Services (AOPT) systems at the National Gallery of Art.

Responsibilities

The Incumbent performs the following duties:

• installs, programs, modifies, calibrates, aligns, fabricates, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains access control, intrusion detection, communication, fire detection, alarm, and badging systems.
• performs planning, designing, installation, configurations, administration, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of video surveillance systems to include IP and analog camera, people counters, license plate readers, power supplies, batteries, hubs, media converter, UPS, servers, workstations and integration with video management software.
• applies technical specifications in accordance with the electrical engineering discipline, as well as the National Gallery of Art guidelines for acquisition, development, design, installation and operation of electronic equipment.
• proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, internet research and email and communicates in writing with internal and external personnel.
• communicate orally with technical and nontechnical personnel.

Physical requirements:Work assignments involve a substantial amount of walking, standing, climbing, bending, and lifting. Qualifications

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for GS-856-10. This requires at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent in responsibility to the GS-9 grade level in the federal service as an electronics security technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic. This experience must include demonstrated knowledge of the operation and capabilities of different types of electronic equipment. Candidates must reflect in their submitted USAJOBS resumes the possession of this specialized experience. Those applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be evaluated against these factors to determine the best-qualified candidates.

1. Skill in installation and maintenance of electronic security systems for a large, complex institution.

2. Knowledge of video surveillance systems design, configuration, and integration.

3. Familiarity with museum-specific and institutional electronic systems procedures.

4. Skill in written communication.

5. Skill in oral communication.

Employee must be able to walk: stand, climb, bend, lift, perform in confined spaces and maintain cramped/awkward positions; Must be able to handle objects weighing 40 pounds or more; climb, work around live electrical circuits; work in hot, humid and dusty areas; performs work from scaffolds, ladders, and lifts; maintain exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, broken bones, burns from electrical shock and radiation; and provide after hours and weekend response support.
