George Washington University Facilities Services, Plumbing department is searching for a full-time Plumber. This person will report to the Supervisor, Plumbing. The Plumbing Shop in part of the Facilities Services, Operation and Maintenance department that manages and maintains all academic and administrative building on all three campuses.

This position typically performs installation, maintenance and repair work related to plumbing fixtures, equipment and facilities. The core responsibilities of this role are installing, maintaining, and repairing pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing used for water distribution and water waste disposal, testing and repairing backflows, connecting and disconnecting gas, water, steam, waste disposal and other systems, and reporting in and answering to emergency call-backs as needed. This position may need to review blueprints, building codes, and specifications to determine work details, assess material and equipment needs, establish the sequence of pipe installations, and plan installation around obstructions. Duties include following established safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and clean environment.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:  Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
