Summary

About the Position: Serves as a Supervisory Security Guard within the Security Division for the National Museum of the United States Army (NMUSA), responsible for overseeing the protection of government property against hazards of damage, theft, trespassing, espionage, riot and limited law enforcement at access control points.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees a guard workforce with the primary function of conducting access control to the campus of NMUSA and additional missions.
  • Conducts meetings with subordinates and coordinates with higher authority to ensure the entire workforce conducts itself in meeting the objective of the mission as its primary goal.
  • Serves as the principle department hand receipt holder responsible for over 500k in equipment.
  • Performs administrative actions, writes reports and completes forms, records messages, attends meetings and briefings, writes standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Approves training for security forces to ensure training standards meet regulatory guidelines.
  • prepares equipment for duty, checks out motor vehicles and ensures operator maintenance is performed on issued equipment prior to turn-in; attends and conducts training sessions.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques.
  • Incumbent must wear a uniform, bullet proof vest and other security/law enforcement equipment.
  • Incumbent must pass periodic proficiency examinations and qualify annually and semi-annually with assigned firearms.
  • Incumbent must be able to pass initial and annual medical examinations.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass physical ability test annually IAW AR 190 56.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver?s license.
  • This position requires rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968
  • This position is designated as mission essential.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This position is a TERM position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.This Definition of Specialized Experience is typical of word performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). Specialized experience is defined as:Reviewing standing operating procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations: Interviewing and participating in the selection of candidates for vacant positions; recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignment: Recommending changes to the facility barrier plan in support of force protection operations: Approving training for security forces to ensure training standards meet regulatory guidelines.
