Temporary Recreation Instructor

Overview
In pursuit of service excellence the Temporary Recreation Instructor will lead youth and adult fitness and enrichment programs. This position will be supervised by a Recreation Manager. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for working with youth and adult participants, and have a range of skills from dance, fitness, science and music to be successful in this position.

You will ensure all programs are safe, fun and educational. You will have the support of and work under the direction of the Recreation Manager. You will execute programs that meets the high standards of excellence.

The Opportunity

• Serves as lead instructor for beginner to advanced level fitness or enrichment classes;
• Makes preparation for recreational activities at one or more sites: sets up equipment/supplies, takes attendance of participants, communicates with participants and/or parents of participants, helps participants attain the goals of that program;
• Plans and develops fitness and enrichment programs in order to ensure that activities and events are made available to the community;
• Communicates concerns and makes recommendations to higher level staff regarding facilities, participants, volunteers, and programs;
• Ensures all safety precautions and facility rules and regulations are followed.
• Maintains a safe program environment and facility;
• Participates in staff meetings, in-service trainings, sessions, and workshops;
• Assists patrons with program information;
• Administer first aid as required;
• Performs related work as required.

The Department's vision is to improve the well-being of every person in our community by connecting them to each other and their environment. The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities received national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). National accreditation requires park and recreation agencies to meet 155 standards representing elements of effective and efficient park and recreation operations.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

High School Diploma or GED; experience leading recreational and cultural activities in arts and crafts, sports, games, music, drama, cooking, exercise and field trips, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

A background working with diverse populations, experience working independently and as part of a team, experience working with schools, therapeutic recreation, sports programs, educational enrichment programs and fitness programs. CPR and First Aid certifications strongly recommended. Strong communication skills.

Notes

This position requires successful completion of a criminal records background check and drug screening prior to employment.
