In this position, you will isolate and define unprecedented conditions; resolve critical problems; and/or develop, testing, and implement new technologies for hardware, software, or system functions. Typical work assignments include:
  • Designing and developing secure interface specifications between interconnected systems.
  • Coordinating with systems architects and developers, as needed, to provide oversight in the development of design solutions.
  • Developing and documenting requirements, capabilities, and constraints for design procedures and processes.
  • Managing information technology (IT) projects to ensure that developed solutions meet customer requirements.
  • Acquiring and managing the necessary resources, including leadership support, financial resources, and key security personnel, to support information technology (IT) security goals and objectives to reduce overall organizational risk.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

GS-12: You must possess information technology related experience demonstrating each of the four required competencies to meet the basic requirement of this position at the GS-12 grade level:

(1) Attention to Detail - assessing new systems design methodologies to improve software quality;
(2) Customer Service - promoting departmental awareness of security issues and ensuring sound security principles and policies are reflected in organizational goals and objectives;
(3) Oral Communication- providing technical advice and guidance to managers and other technical specialists on information security problems and issues;
(4) Problem Solving- identifying need for changes based on new security technologies or threats.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement listed above, you qualify for the GS-12 grade level (starting salary $83,398), if you have one year experience at the GS-11 grade level performing all of the following duties:

1) Assisting in work assignments that require applying one or more of the following knowledge areas: (a) total infrastructure protection environments; (b) systems security certification and accreditation requirements and processes; and/or (c) Federal information systems security protocols; 2) Supporting the integration of information systems security with other security disciplines; 3) Certifying systems or network accreditation; and 4) Supporting the coordinating and/or collaboration of IT security activities to assess program effectiveness.

GS-13: You must possess information technology related experience demonstrating each of the four required competencies to meet the basic requirement of this position at the GS-13 grade level:

(1) Attention to Detail - defining applicable IT security program scope and level of detail for security plans and policies that assess new systems design methodologies to improve software quality;
(2) Customer Service - leading new security technologies implementation activities to institute measures that ensure security technologies awareness and compliance;
(3) Oral Communication - providing subject matter expert technical advice and guidance to managers and other technical specialists on significant information security problems and issues;
(4) Problem Solving- developing long-range plans for IT security systems that anticipate, identify, evaluate, mitigate, and minimize risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement listed above, you qualify for the GS-13 grade level (starting salary $99,172), if you have one year experience at the GS-12 grade level performing all of the following duties:

1) Conducting and/or leading work assignments utilizing one or more of the following knowledge areas: (a) total infrastructure protection environments; (b) systems security certification and accreditation requirements and processes; and/or (c) Federal information systems security protocols; 2) Isolating and defining unprecedented conditions to integrate information systems security with other security disciplines; 3) Developing, testing, and implementing new technologies to certify systems or network accreditation; and 4) Establishing criteria and/or resolving critical problems to ensure coordination and/or collaboration on IT security activities.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
