Summary

As an IT Specialist, you will serve as a Cloud Engineer responsible for participating in defining the cloud computing strategy and methodologies utilized to provide useable, tactical outcomes.

Responsibilities

Provides full life cycle cloud service support on designated projects by utilizing cloud computing, cloud automation,scaling, continuous integration automation and release management, experience in a 24 x 7 cloud and/or PaaS/SaaS production environment, and understanding of application architecture. Utilizes current commercial and government cloud environments and services to provide oversight and recommendation of technical solutions,architecture design, and implementation timelines in support of business application requirements. Works closely with software business units, embedded project IT, design, development, and engineering teams to port existing applications to the cloud; responsible for articulating and communicating, to the supervisor and team, the project objectives, technical requirements, potential problems and issues, schedules, and milestones to accomplish overall program execution; and leads and participates on Agile software development teams while supporting many stakeholders across GSA IT. Serves as a Subject Matter Expert and implementer of cloud technologies to develops and recommends changes in the functions and goals of the organization. Participates in management surveys and assures full application of management improvement programs.

The GS-14 salary range starts at $117,191.00per year.

If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.

To qualify, you must have IT-related experience demonstrating EACH of the four competencies AND one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service as described below:

IT SPECIALIST COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Attention to Detail - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant investigates and evaluates "state of the art" technology of the industry.
  • Customer Service - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant confers with users to evaluate the effectiveness of, or identify the need for, computer programs or management systems.
  • Oral Communication - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant persuades others to take a particular course of action or to accept findings, recommendations, changes, or alternative viewpoints.
  • Problem Solving - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant identifies and accommodates technology and resource constraints.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Specialized experience is providing cloud service support on IT projects and providing advice and guidance on cloud solution efforts. Experience must include using cloud technologies, cloud computing and cloud automation, and current cloud environments/services.

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

We will use a method called Category Rating to assess your application. Here's how it will work:
  • You will be scored on the questions you answer during the application process, which will measure your possession of the following competencies or knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Skill in IT cloud, development, networking,system administration, and IT operations.
    1a. Knowledge of IT concepts, principles,practices and data
  • Skill in cloud environments/ services/tools(e.g. Amazon Web Services, Google ComputeEngine, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, IAM/IdM,EBS, S3 and Glacier, CloudFormation,Jenkins, Splunk, ELK, Circle CI SecurityGroups, and/or ACLs, etc.)
  • Skill in state‐of‐the‐art computer hardwareand software, metrics, testing, configuration management, and their interrelationships
    3a. Skill in apply project management techniques and methods
  • Knowledge of infrastructure and application development solutions including microservices, container, open source, version control, and Agile methodologies
