Job Summary:

Westat is seeking a full stack Java developer to work on building back-end and front-end systems that capture, transform, store, and deliver large data sets used by social science researchers globally. We work in small teams, where everyone is involved in design and optimization. We work with leading edge technologies and are always looking to integrate new technologies where these can improve throughput, quality, or scalability. We are looking for someone who thrives in an environment of constant learning. We work in an Agile, continuous integration process with automated test and deployment.


Job Responsibilities:

· Authoring and code-reviewing code in Java, Spring framework, and/or other emerging languages and frameworks.

· Work with multifaceted teams, such as subject matter experts, statisticians, and IT staff to define and document system requirements.

· Architecting and designing new system features, and providing accurate estimates and development timelines.

· Takes ownership and pride in development.

· Use of Cloud technologies especially AWS.

· Providing technical guidance to junior developers and business analysts on the team.

· Work fluidly in an agile, CICD environment.

Basic Qualifications:

· A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field

· At least 5 years of Java (Spring) programming experience is required.

· At least 1 year of Microservices or API development experience is required.

· At least 2 years of experience in a CICD environment is required

Preferred Qualifications:

· At least 6 years experience in software development

· At least 4 years experience in Agile practices

· At least 1 year experience with AWS

The ideal candidate will have experience working on complex, multi-tiered applications assembled from micro-services. Other desirable experience includes an understanding of web development. Candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills; strong organizational skills; the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; detail-oriented and work well in a team environment.
