Job Announcement

Serves in a senior engineer role with responsibility for developing and implementing wastewater collection capital projects; monitoring project status; providing technical guidance for the wastewater collection division; and coordinating with the Asset Management Program (AMP), wastewater planning, and operations and maintenance staff. This position requires a range of experience in wastewater collection system planning, design, and asset management. As a project engineer, the successful candidate will participate in asset planning, condition assessment, and project prioritization. In addition, the candidate is responsible for managing capital projects, including the design and construction of pump stations, force main, gravity sewer rehabilitation and general collection system study and assessment. Coordinates all aspects of CIP projects from initial scope development to construction close-out in coordination with Capital Facilities. Acts as engineering technical lead ensuring that wastewater operational and asset management needs are incorporated during Capital Improvement Program (CIP) project design, review, construction, and project field inspection.

Under the general supervision of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Manager.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to: graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate possesses the following:
  • Progressively responsible project design and management experience in the water distribution, wastewater collection and treatment fields.
  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills.
  • Experience in planning, budgeting, design, construction, project management, and contract administration wastewater pumping and or collection projects.
  • Detailed knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Expertise in managing multiple capital projects.
  • Experience in conducting public meetings.
  • Advanced information technology skills including CAD, Modeling, GIS, and Project Management software.
  • Must be highly motivated; possess the skills necessary to work in a fast-paced office/field collaborative team environment; and be oriented toward providing outstanding customer service to project stakeholders.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Must have a valid driver's license. Possession of a valid Virginia professional engineer or architect license. An individual who possesses a valid professional engineer or architect license in another state will be granted a temporary exemption to this requirement pending the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers & Landscape Architects decision regarding that individual's application for reciprocity.
