Job Description:
TCW International Academy is looking for a certified HS Earth Science Teacher (dual certified in EL preferred) with experience working with English language learners to join our team. This position is working exclusively with English language learners who are heterogeneously grouped by language and by ability. The teacher will work on a collaborative team to support the development of science content and language development. The academy and classroom model is collaborative and project-based. We are looking for a hard-working dedicated teacher, who thrives on teamwork, creativity and innovation. Our ideal candidate wants to continue growing as a teacher, is resourceful, and is a reflective practitioner. This job reports to the International Academy Coordinator.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
  • Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education License or eligibility to obtain one with an endorsement in HS Earth Science (dual certified Science and ELL preferred.)

  • Experience and/or willingness to use on-going formative assessments and to monitor and analyze the data to drive instruction, differentiate for all students, and increase student achievement
  • Willingness to integrate technology in the classroom
  • Experience and/or willingness to collaborate with colleagues to design and deliver an effective advisory program that supports the diverse needs of every student
  • Success in classroom management and commitment to student-centered learning
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, students, families, and external partners, both orally and in writing

Essential Functions:
  • Collaborate in an inter-disciplinary planning and teaching team with an emphasis on project-based learning and student interaction/ collaboration
  • Adapt curriculum & unit planning to include the integration of English literacy & language learning into content area instruction
  • Lead curriculum based classes that are student centered, collaborative, involve experiential learning, differentiated and integrate the teaching of content and language
  • Practice an open-door policy and developing best practice pedagogy to facilitate professional growth and collaboration, including participation in inter-visitations
  • Initiate partnerships and mentoring relations to enhance school experiences and develop external learning experiences
  • Collaborate in an inter-disciplinary guidance team around student social emotional needs and academic progress
  • Lead an advisory group that includes coordinating and implementing team-building activities and advisory curriculum
  • Work within a non-traditional organization structure that meets the needs of English language learners
  • Participate in all team and interdisciplinary planning meetings
  • Become a member on one of the leadership committees (personnel, professional development, advisory, curriculum, leadership team, etc.)
  • Participate in monthly Academy meetings
  • Attend and actively participate in all professional development
