Responsibilities
The Secret Service is seeking to hire Statisticians to perform a variety of research and statistical work in support of workforce planning, forecasting and analyses activities. This involves the application of statistical and operations research methods, management and organizational development theories and concepts, and integration of human capital requirements into workforce planning, forecasting, analysis, policy and strategy development. Activities often involve addressing competing interests and fundamental changes to organizational alignment, authorized staffing or associated processes. Statisticians prepare study plans; document results; create surveys; and provide briefings, presentations, and information on complex and technical statistical results to all levels of management and audiences with non-statistical backgrounds. Duties could include utilizing database systems like Integrated Database Management System/Relational (IDMS/R) and ORACLE; and reading and interpreting logical records, data dictionaries and schemas using the systems such as Statistical Analysis System (SAS) and BASE, ACCESS, and STAT

You must demonstrate at least one (1) year of the defined specialized experience and meet the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR).

Basic Requirements:
Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.

Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance

- Certify you have registered with the Selective Service System if you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, or certify you are exempt from having to do so under Selective Service law.
Qualifications
You must demonstrate at least one (1) year of the defined specialized experience and meet the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR).
Specialized experience is defined as performing such duties as:
- GS-11: conducting and executing statistical analysis that encompasses related studies or segments of a mass data-collection project; or three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D degree; or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or a combination of education and experience.
