University of Maryland University College is seeking a Director, Organizational Development & Learning, reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Organizational Effectiveness. This role focuses on global initiatives aimed at enhancing organizational development resulting in enhanced performance outcomes of our operations and non-operations customers; partners with key business leaders and others within Human Resources to drive assessments design and execute, and end-to-end leadership and employee development programs; identifies appropriate development solutions and deployment approaches based on internal customer needs; and measures the effectiveness of initiatives and reports results to key stakeholders.

  • Delivers organizational development services and solutions for strategic initiatives to ensure that leaders and team members are aligned on foundational elements such as the mission, values, behaviors, and how they can best work together to achieve desired results.
  • Develops and facilitates leadership development programs using innovative experiential learning, blended learning and development methods, and OD assessments / methodologies.
  • Builds programs that can be accessed remotely and used in overseas UMGC locations. Continually plans, assesses and evaluates training and organizational development services.
    Collaborates with stakeholders at all levels to align organizational strategy, structure, and people to achieve and sustain optimal effectiveness and efficiencies. Serves as a partner to other internal groups within HR.
  • Provides overall thought leadership relative to learning and development concepts, practices, and applications; conduct needs evaluations to recommend and deliver enterprise-wide learning needs for leaders and associates.
  • Manages the performance of the OD&L department direct reports; develops and manages the departmental budget; plans and organizes the work of the department; assigns resources as needed.
  • Leverages technology to build and improve learning capacity and retention. Assess internal gaps, makes recommendations to the AVP Organizational Effectiveness; manages purchasing process and oversees relationships with vendors.
  • Leads the development of change efforts impacting multiple levels of stakeholders throughout the organization by providing expertise, assessments, analysis, team facilitation and solutions.
  • Continuously monitors and solicits feedback on all programs and materials to ensure accuracy, relevance, and effectiveness, while seeking enhancements for continued improvement.
  • Serves as a leadership coach to improve leadership effectiveness using professional coaching techniques OD, and 360 type instruments.
  • Meets with UMGC leaders to evaluate needs and develops appropriate solutions to address root cause and close performance gaps or individuals and teams.

  • Bachelor's degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Leadership Development, Psychology, or Organizational Effectiveness;
  • Five (5)+ years of experience identifying performance needs through internal consulting methods, creating and facilitating solutions, and coaching leaders throughout the process.
  • At least 5 years of functional experience in Organizational Development, with strong knowledge of the Organizational Effectiveness, Change Management, HR, Talent Development, or Learning & Development.
  • Additionally, 3+ years of management experience.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, training needs identification methods, program design and evaluation methods.
  • OD/OE, managerial coaching, excellent platform presentation and verbal communication skills, training and development, instructional design knowledge, blended learning techniques.
  • Certifications and experience in assessments, developmental instruments and programs such as DiSC, MBTI, 360 assessments, Situational Leadership/One Minute Manager, and DDI. PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP a plus.
