The Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park, is seeking applicants for a Communications Officer position. The employee in this position will be responsible for managing and enhancing the College’s public face, including communications, public relations, recruiting, and marketing. Duties are as follows: write press releases and newsletters; edit some grant and marketing materials; create content for, and manage the college’s website; design and manage the college’s social media strategy; and design and execute recruitment strategies for the College. Other duties as assigned.
Physical demands: Must be able to lift 25 lbs for audio-visual equipment, promotional materials.
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree is required as well as at least five years of professional journalism or communications experience. Excellent writing, editing, public relations, marketing, web analytics and multimedia skills are also a must. Journalism experience is strongly preferred.
